Pipeline Mats – The Epitome of Heavy-Duty Rugged Access Mat Use!
Pipeline constructors need to access long distances with their pipeline trenching equipment, pipeline slings, welding trucks, heavy flat-decks carrying pipe, and other large support vehicles. They also need to protect pipelines where this heavy equipment needs to make crossings. Pipeliners need lots of access matting that will be rough-handled, beat-up and essentially left for scrap recovery once the pipeline is installed. Paradox gets this.
Based on our mat comparison classification scale we regularly sort our swamp and rig mats. While our ‘pipeline-grade mats’ are not suitable for all purposes, they are the lowest-cost but still completely effective grade for pipeline construction. We understand that this use is the ‘last hurrah’ for pipeline-grade mats; they must provide heavy-duty access in mud-ugly conditions, but they only need to do it once. Likewise, the pipeline-grade steel frame rig mats used to bridge pipeline crossings must provide adequate protection to the pipelines buried underneath, but are only expected to be used once or twice in this service. Therefore, they are not top-grade rig mats because it is expected that they will be bent, broken and otherwise rendered ‘expired’ when the job is finished.
Retrieval of pipeline mats is not done with the intent to reuse them. Recovery is done in accordance with regulations which requires ground repair and restoration. In concern for the environment, the mats typically get disposed also in accordance with regulations by chipping/mulching, chipping and burying in approved locations, or chipping and incinerating.
Low-Cost Fit-for-Purpose Stabilized Access Solutions for Farmers and Ranchers
Pipeline mats are popular with farmers and ranchers as they are a very affordable mud matting solution. They get used to stabilize soft ground around water troughs, salt licks, dugouts etc where concentrations of livestock tend to create mud-ugly conditions. The mats are typically installed upside down and backfilled with soil and straw. They are safe for the environment and easy on the hoofs and feet of the livestock.
