Oak for access mats, digging mats or temporary roadways when durability is paramount. Oak hardwood mats are easier to maintain compared to mats made from softer species. Timber used in the North American market comes from the USA, our the best-available source of high-quality affordable hardwood. Wood mats made from softer woods such as spruce, pine and Douglas fir, though typically sourced from Canada, are less strong and less durable.
Paradox directly selects sustainable forest tracts where our oak and other hardwoods are harvested and graded according to our specifications. No tract is selected for harvesting unless it contains minimum 70% oak, and minimum 85% hardwood species of which oak is the least hard (oak, hickory, beech, sycamore, pecan). Unacceptable wood species such as hackberry, aspen and white pine are separated and sustainably used for other purposes.
Paradox’s oak mats therefore always contain oak or woods harder and tougher than oak, and will never contain woods softer than oak. Beware of low-quality oak mats that have softwood boards hidden in the middle layer, compromising the strength and quality of the mat. Paradox guarantees you get what you’ve paid for…100% oak or better!
Our oak mats are guaranteed no wane on the top surface and guaranteed minimal wane on the middle and bottom layers. Paradox mats are made to our specifications, your specifications, or made to special order. We provide traceability on our oak mats from the forest to your site.
