The term ‘mud mats’ defines a specific type of access mats. It is not to be confused with the term ‘swamp mats’ which is a generic classification of rigid matting used for heavy-duty, severe mud-ugly access and platforming needs.
Mud mats are an old-school lightweight, flexible reinforced textile design, incorporating a series of high-tensile strength ribs uniformly spaced and sewn between two high-strength fabrics. They come in 8′ x 15′ rolled bundles and are approx. 90lbs. They are suitable for use where protection of established grassy areas is desired, such as access across golf courses, lawns, and fields. Mud mats are easily deployed and retrieved provided the soil conditions are relatively firm and the loads using the mats are relatively light. When the conditions become soft or downright mud-ugly, mud mats ironically are not recommended!
Paradox Access Solutions recommends that mud mats only be considered for limited trips (1-2 crossings only) across firm ground conditions, and for lighter vehicles such as pickup trucks, small skid steers, or bobcats. Even then slight rutting should be expected.
When areas of ‘bottomless’ mud, muskeg and soft soil, preferably accessed when frozen during winter need access stretched into spring and fall, a tougher, more durable matting system is required. Paradox Access Solutions are experts at evaluating your site conditions and load requirements, then developing and recommending a fit-for-purpose solution. Be it heavy equipment mats, pipeline matting, rig matting, crane matting – or any other mat by any other name – Paradox provides turn-key, 24/7 service year-round service so you are never without access.
